This is the first iMac to incorporate Apple’s M1 chip, a custom bit of silicon that’s already proven itself to be powerful and efficient in the M1 MacBook Air, the M1 MacBook Pro, and the Mac mini with M1. Of course, the new iMac’s no slouch in the performance department, either. You might think the M1 chip in the new iMac is its most interesting feature, but after spending time testing this machine for my iMac 2021 review, I’m more impressed by the quality of its display, speakers, and camera. These virtues seem especially welcome at a time when many of us have spent much of the last two years stuck at home, enjoying endless rounds of video calls with colleagues and loved ones.
